Sharp products

Sharp develops and manufactures electronic equipment.

The Corporation employs 57,500 staff, of which nearly half are employed outside Japan. Sharp Corporation operates from 64 bases in 30 countries and its products are distributed to 164 countries worldwide, resulting in £9547m net sales for the financial year ending March 31, 2002.

Sharp was one of the first Japanese electronics companies to invest the UK. First came the sales and marketing company with its headquarters in Manchester, which was followed by manufacturing plants in Wrexham, North Wales and a finance centre at Watford. In 1990, the UK was chosen to host the European Research and Development Centre for the Corporation which is situated on the Oxford Science Park.
